Our Story
Bas and Elise met as bright-eyed 18-year-olds in September 2014, just starting their studies in Rotterdam. During introduction week, they struck up a conversation on a party boat cruising the Maas river, and they haven’t stopped yapping since.
Bas charmed Elise by playing her love songs on his guitar and teaching her the difference between garlic and onion. Elise, in turn, showered him with handmade gifts (Bas learned that there’s 1000 crafts and hobbies he had never heard of before) and attempted to teach him German - the true language of love.
They started reading German children’s books together, with “Petterson und Findus” becoming their favourite. They still read it together to this day.
Their shared love of travel led them to go on exchange to Hong Kong together, where Elise ate her first guacamole, Bas fell in love with coffee, and where both of them were traumatized by gigantic flying cockroaches.
They explored Asia together, which included risking their lives riding scooters (which they had absolutely no business being trusted with) and watching the sunrise over the temples of Bagan at 5 AM - marking the only time Elise voluntarily got up before 10 AM.
Bas also proved he truly was marriage material when he casually learned how to switch IV bags when Elise got sick in Cambodia. Definitely a keeper!
After graduating together…
They spent 2.5 years navigating long distance between the UK and Switzerland. A global pandemic brought them back together (thanks, COVID?), and they moved to Zurich together.
Switzerland brought many discoveries: Elise finally understood her brain (ADHD!), Bas finally understood his limits (skiing = not it), and together they fell in love with the Swiss mountains, chocolate, llamas, and cheese fondue.
Bas discovered his love for running and baking bread, for which Elise will always be a very willing taste tester 😉
Elise started modelling again, decided to give stand up comedy a try, and started sharing her unhinged crafts on TikTok, with Bas cheering her on every step of the way.
But even stunning Switzerland couldn't hold them down for too long, as they moved to Copenhagen last year.
In December 2023, Bas proposed with the cutest treasure hunt in the German forest. After a week of rain, the moment they stepped foot into the forest, the raindrops turned to snowflakes. When Bas went down on one knee Elise of course said YES!
After over a decade together, we can’t wait to celebrate our love with you all in August!
